Globus Auth Change Log for Identity Provider Data

In response to changes in information received from identity providers, Globus occasionally changes identity metadata provided to services that rely on Globus Auth. All changes are made by Globus either on request from or in consultation with the identity provider. Globus publishes these changes so consumers of the Globus platform are aware of changes in information received from Globus. Changes since 5/1/2019 are listed in the table below.

Display name: Name used to identify the identity provider in the discovery interfaces (e.g. when a user logs in via Globus Auth).
Identity Provider Specific Identifier: Globus requires identity providers to release a field corresponding to a persistent identifier that uniquely identifies a user. The expectation of consumers of the Globus Platform is that a user’s Identity Provider Specific Identifier will never change. Examples of a persistent identifier that uniquely identifies a user include eduPersonTargetedID for SAML identity providers and sub for OIDC identity providers.

08/21/2024	Swiss National Supercomputing Center	The identity provider updated their identity provider which resulted in a new unique identifier for all identities. In order to preserve the users' access to services that rely on Globus Auth, the Identity Provider Specific Identifier for 400 users were changed.
05/20/2024	Rockefeller University	The identity provider changed to a new identity provider which resulted in a new unique identifier for all identities. In order to preserve the users' access to services that rely on Globus Auth, the Identity Provider Specific Identifier for 236 users were changed.
05/24/2024	Università di Torino	The identity provider reset a persistent identifier that uniquely identifies a user. In order to preserve the user’s access to services that rely on Globus Auth, the Identity Provider Specific Identifier for 1 user was changed.
05/24/2024	Idaho State University	The identity provider changed to a new identity provider which resulted in a new unique identifier for all identities as we as a new name. 05/21/2024	Digital Research Alliance of Canada (formerly Compute Canada)	The identity provider changed to a new identity provider which resulted in a new unique identifier for all identities as well as a new name. The Identity Provider Specific Identifiers for 9612 users were reset.

03/14/2024	University of South Carolina	University of South Carolina changed to a new identity provider which resulted in a new unique identifier for all identities. The Identity Provider Specific Identifier for 223 users was reset.

12/05/2022	Binghamton University	The identity provider was upgraded, resulting in the persistent identities changing. In order to preserve users' access to services that rely on Globus Auth, the Identity Provider Specific Identifiers of 29 users were changed.
11/02/2022	University of Washington	The identity provider reset a persistent identifier that uniquely identifies a user. In order to preserve the user’s access to services that rely on Globus Auth, the Identity Provider Specific Identifier for 1 user was changed.
09/19/2022	Argonne LCF	The identity provider was changed, resulting in the persistent identifiers also changing. In order to preserve users' access to services that rely on Globus Auth, the Identity Provider Specific Identifier for 342 users was changed.
09/01/2022	ACCESS (formerly XSEDE)	XSEDE transitioned to ACCESS using a new authentication service but with the same underlying user database. To support that transition, XSEDE identities in Globus that had not already been used with the ACCESS authentication service were updated to reflect the new domain name (access-ci.org) in the username. Additionally, the persistent identifier used by those identities was reset. This affected 81892 identities.
